This week my post is about Marilyn Monroe's childhood.
She was born on June 1, 1926 in the Los Angeles Country Hospital. She was the third child of Gladys Pearl Baker as the name of Norma Jeane Mortenson. As in most of the biographies written by her, Charles Stanley Gifford was her biological father, but some writers wrote that Martin Edward Mortenson, the second husband of Gladys, was her father. Robert Kermit Baker and Berniece Baker were the two children of Gladys from her first marriage.
Because of the mental illness of Gladys and being taken to the hospital, Marilyn had to stay at orphanages and with some families who adopted her.
Marilyn's uncle Marion also stayed at the hospital and when he got out, he hung himself. Her grandparents Della and Otis had some mental problems and got through so many difficulties.
Norma Jeane stayed with a religious family until she got 7. After a while, Gladys rent a house and Norma decided to live with her. But when Gladys got worse by the illness, Norma Jeane moved to Grace McKee's house, Gladys's best friend. In 1935, Grace got married and Norma Jeane got back to the orphanage.
After two years, Grace took Norma back again, but Norma didn't stay long with them. Because of Grace's husband doing sexual abuse on Norma, she was sent to live with her aunt Olive Brunings. After a while, she had to move to Grace's aunt Ana Lower's house, because of the attack she got from Olive's sons.
When Ana got health problem, Norma had to go back to Grace's house. She was 16 years old and she started flirting ith the neighbour's son James Doughtery, aged 21. Then they got married, but after 4 years they broke up.
After their divorce, Norma started her carreer as a model at the agent The Blue Book. She also got in some acting and singing contests.
